When first joining the troop, don't buy a lot of gear. Talk to other scouts and
find out what they are using first. Check out gear websites and visit camping stores
like REI, the Alpine Shop, Cabelas, and Backwoods in St Louis to get ideas. Make
a list of gear you might need, then keep your eyes open for sales, garage sale finds,
or ways to make the gear yourself.
